ARTIST STATEMENT
Raphael Serrano Disla is a painter and multidisciplinary artist based in Providence, Rhode Island. His work explores themes such as enculturation, immigrant experiences, the Caribbean, and the meaning of nature—both its overt and subtle aspects. He also delves into familial bonds and their lingering effects, as well as concepts of freedom, memory, and love, all of which reflect the human condition. Despite the diversity in his work, Raphael is a self-taught artist who draws on emotional labor as a guiding influence.
